Download 2009 wins Event of Year at Classic Rock Awards!
On 03.11.2009
The mood in Download HQ this morning was a very happy one. Not only because we had a stonking good time at the fifth annual Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards in London last night chilling out with the biggest names in rock royalty like Iggy Pop, Ronnie Wood, Joe Perry and Billy Gibbons, but also because we were privileged enough to walk away with the gong we had our eyes on – the prestigious Event of the Year award.
Our very own ‘Maverick’, festival booker Andy Copping went up to accept the award, and found himself in front of the Rockerati, which included members of Led Zeppelin, Queen, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, The Who, ZZ Top, Iron Maiden amongst many others.
Festival Director John Probyn wanted to mention all the hard-working people who made 2009 a year to remember, and upon winning the gong he congratulated “everyone who contributed towards the staging of this fantastic event and the recognition they have obtained through this prestigious award.”
A massive thank you to all 80,000 of you who came down to Donington in June to take part in biggest Download yet, as it wouldn’t have been the same without each and every one of you. Also, thanks to everyone who voted for us online to win the award – we’re incredibly grateful for your continual support.
